How did Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani gradually claim prophethood?
At the beginning of his career, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani introduced himself as a reformer (Mujaddid) sent to renew faith in Islam. Later, he began to emphasize his role as the Promised Messiah and Mahdi, a position associated with the end times. This gradual evolution in his self-identity kept his followers engaged while simultaneously alarming traditional scholars.
As his writings and speeches grew more assertive, his claims appeared to escalate. Eventually, he described himself in ways that aligned with prophetic authority. This step was unacceptable to mainstream Muslims who believe in the finality of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as the last prophet, leading to widespread rejection of his mission.
