The Cook was a pirate who operated during the mid-18th century. During the quest for the Fountain of Youth, the Cook joined the crew of the Queen Anne's Revenge, where he took part in Jack Sparrow's mutiny. The Cook would be killed and later turned into a zombie, a fate handed to him by Blackbeard.
Climbing aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, the Cook worked as one of the ship's chef for the next five days, where he would work with a shanghaied Jack Sparrow. He later met with Jack and some of the other crewmen, who were not satisfied with sailing under Angelica and her zombie crew, and took part in Jack's mutiny aboard the Revenge. During the fighting that erupted during the mutiny, the Cook took advantage of an impaired Gunner by leaping upon and subduing the man. Jack's crew were soon victorious until Blackbeard himself came out of his cabin. Blackbeard, in response to being told that the proceedings were the ends of a mutiny, hung all of the crewmen, including the Cook, with the rigging of the Queen Anne's Revenge.[2]
Blackbeard inquired as to which crewman stood watch, after which the Gunner turned towards the Cook. As punishment, Blackbeard sent the Cook aboard a longboat where he would row across the ocean as the bow of the Queen Anne's Revenge turned towards the Cook's direction. As soon as the Cook rowed a couple of yards away from the ship, Blackbeard had his crew watch as the Revenge unleashed Greek fire upon the Cook.[2] After a few firings, the Cook was believed to have been killed, but this was part of a voodoo ritual to transform the Cook. Now zombified, an undead Cook guarded Blackbeard's cabin after this took place.[4] He later died, as with all the other zombies, after Blackbeard himself died in the Fountain of Youth.[3]
Chef is first seen in Not So Happy Campers - Part 1, where he is introduced as the camp's loud, tough, somewhat aggressive, and highly unpleasant chef. According to himself, he serves food three times a day and the campers have to eat it three times a day. Chef quickly gets annoyed at Harold's requests for sugar, due to his condition and how Owen comments on his cooking. He becomes furious when Geoff suggests that they order pizza instead of eating Chef's own cooked food. In response, Chef throws a knife at Geoff, narrowly missing him and hitting the wall behind him.
In Brain vs. Brawn: The Ultimate Showdown, Chef is abused by Chris in the recap when trying to touch the million dollars, but gets a mouse trap to the hand. Later in the episode, he drops a pile of junk for the finalists to rummage through. And at the end of the episode, he gets his revenge on Chris by placing a bomb under the dock that was originally under the boat. When Chris tries to blow up the boat of contestants, he is blown away.
In A Blast from the Past, when Shawn is absent from the challenge, Chris sends Chef to find the missing contestant and bring him over. He discovers a pungent Shawn pretending to be a zombie and apprehends him. Shawn, believing there was a zombie apocalypse, tries to warn Chef and states they could hide behind a waterfall, only to discover it had disappeared. Chef dismisses it as a hallucination.
Chef did not appear, nor was mentioned at all during the promo of Total Drama Island's prototype series, Camp TV. However, he was shown to have a design vastly different from what he looks like in the Total Drama series. His wardrobe is similar, though his hat is different, appearing to be some kind of fedora rather than the chef's hat he is wearing in the current series. His angry face is much more exaggerated, yet at the same time he is much smaller in build. He also seemed to have a much larger mustache and also had a beard. Although he did not appear in the promo, some of his dishes did, such as the grub.
In Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Queen Anne's Revenge is crewed with zombies, and Blackbeard uses her to travel to the fountain of youth. With his magical sword, he can control the ship, even down to making its rigging act like an extension of his arms.
Brooklyn Guy tries finding the message source, but is unable to, and is only able to get HelenKellerSimulator.org. Brooklyn guy finds it suspicious the Junior smashed his phone, but ignores it. Cody then notices more messages coming from his phone, meaning someone else was sending death threats. They quickly track the source of the messages inside the house, in the kitchen. They go to find the source, discovering Chef Pee Pee to be sending them as revenge for hitting his head earlier. Brooklyn Guy hears about the hit on the head, the smashing of Junior's piggy bank, and his anger issues. But instead of arresting him, he just tells everyone to behave better, because he and everyone else is tired. He then admits the ending to the video is lazy because of how tired they all are and tells the audience to come up with a better ending, and the best will be read out by him in the next video.
Surprisingly enough she seems unfazed should Shantae decide to hair-whip Wobble Bell. It has been said that she went on to be a famous traveling chef during the events of The Pirate's Curse, likely explaining her absence in that game.
Jerome McElroy, commonly referred to as Chef, was a recurring character in South Park. He was most famous for being the South Park Elementary cafeteria chef and the boys' go-to guy for advice, which would often result into him breaking into songs about sex. He made his debut in the Season One episode "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe" and was voiced by the late Isaac Hayes.
Chef's body was secretly recovered by the Super Adventure Club, who managed to revive him as a "Darth" Chef, mimicking the ending to Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. He was revived by the Super Adventure Club in a Darth Vader-esque suit (albeit with a helmet similar to a chef's hat) and was given a red spatula lightsaber. After that, the Super Adventure Club leader Connelly began the scene, which parodies Revenge of the Sith:
After Chef died, the children were never seen getting lunch again until "Crème Fraiche", and it was unknown who replaced Chef. However, in "Eek, A Penis!", Mr. Derp was seen in the background, implying he took over for the time. In "Crème Fraiche", the boys are seen in the lunch line and are greeted by Randy with Chef's familiar lines "Hello there children!" and "How's it goin'?" He also wore an apron that was similar to Chef's, only smaller, and he reveals there was an opening for a cafeteria chef. Chef himself is not directly referenced in the episode though, and Randy quits at the end, meaning it is likely Mr. Derp or another staff member took on the role again.
Chef is seen briefly during a trailer for South Park: The Stick of Truth breaking out from a coffin, partially rotting, much to the shock of Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and the new kid. Despite his final appearance in the show depicting him in a Darth Vader-like suit, his appearance in-game is a zombified version of his normal attire (along with the addition of a Nazi Sash around his arm). Chef is brought back to life by Clyde thanks to toxic waste made by aliens as a zombie Nazi as a boss fight, at points Chef will try biting the new kid, only for him to literally knock some sense into him, unfortunately Clyde shoots the toxic waste from a water gun at chef, causing the zombie Nazi personality to take over. At the end of the fight, Chef gains control, but only briefly as Clyde lights him on fire in a last ditch effort to defeat the new Kid, who had no choice but to use magical farts on Chef, burning his face off and killing him again. Chef's dialogue is, much like in Chef's return, comprised of stock audio (both from Isaac Hayes and various speeches from Adolf Hitler).
Chef was referenced in "Stunning and Brave", when P.C. Principal mentions a "chef person of color who loved to sing soul songs", and claims that the children drove him to suicide. Butters corrects him by stating that he was brainwashed by a cult.
Aside from Nichole, Tolkien, and their families, Chef was the only African-American character in South Park. He was almost always seen wearing his chef's hat, red shirt and blue pants. He was also often seen wearing a white apron with the word "Chef" printed on it. He appeared to be slightly overweight and had a black beard. In "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe" his apron text changes from an uppercase "CHEF" to a lowercase "chef" in one scene.
Chef seems to have worn a chef's hat for most of his life, even when he was not employed as a chef. He wore it as a child, as seen in "The Tooth Fairy Tats 2000" and supported by his father's anecdote in "The Succubus". Even when he is employed as an accountant in "The Succubus", his signature hat can be seen hanging up in his office. However, he does not wear it as a young adult in the flashbacks in "Chef Aid" or "Cartman's Mom is a Dirty Slut".
In South Park: The Stick of Truth, Chef is revived as a Nazi Zombie by Clyde. The player referred to as "Douchebag" must fight him as a penultimate boss. It is revealed that he has been stitched back together, however, his skin has turned green (like most zombies in the game), the visible scars and gashes from his brutal death still remain, and his old clothes are tattered (as you would expect). He will quickly switch between his old voice and the Nazi outbursts common among those exposed to the green goo. His voice lines are similar to being replayed from an old episode, much like "The Return of Chef", this is due to how the original voice actor having passed away 6 years prior to the game's release, when making his old voice lines, he is still his old self, showing regret for him being forced to attack the boys, but this is quickly stopped by Clyde, who quickly covers him in the green goo.
